In this workshop all about Dahlias\, students will learn to cut\, shape\, and construct each flower. Each participant will construct one bloom in class\, with a leaf\, and take home enough materials to make two more dahlias. \nPre registration is required. All classes are final sale unless event is canceled. \n  \nMeet Your Teacher: Leona Rogers \n \nMy journey into becoming a paper flower artist began with using books\, photos\, online tutorials\, and deconstructing real flowers\, to create many different varieties of blooms. I use German and Italian crepe paper\, watercolors\, pan pastels\, acrylics\, and markers\, on my flowers. Some flowers are very specific reproductions of true nature\, others are lively\, joyful\, and completely fanciful. I also have created large wallflowers\, that are perfect for decorating and special occasions. \nWhy do I teach? It is a joy for me to make flowers from crepe and I think others would enjoy it too. Students become “Makers” and create their own blooms and see the possibility of making something beautiful with their hands.

Landscape artist Val Voigt will walk you through the steps and teach you a variety of painting techniques to create this image. Paint along with Val and learn the techniques to create this moonlit scene. All supplies are included in the class fee\, 11 x 14 canvas\, paints\, brushes and apron to use during the class. Attendees may want to wear a paint shirt. \nClass is for beginners to advanced painters. This class has a relaxed atmosphere and is meant for you to have fun while learning to paint. Students complete the painting during the class session. \nPre registration is required. All classes are final sale unless event is canceled. \n \nMeet your instructor: Val Voigt \nSince the age of 18\, Val Voigt has enjoyed painting beautiful landscapes.  As a young child\, growing up in Detroit Lakes\, MN\, she was encouraged to create art by her family.  Her art emphasizes the beauty of nature depicting natural surroundings while capturing moments in time.   Inspired by local scenery\, her award winning art reflects the moods created by the changing seasons and our glorious outdoors.\n\nIn the past\, Val has taught many painting classes including teaching for Michaels Arts and Crafts for several years\, along with teaching group painting classes.\n\nVal is enthusiastic about sharing her love of creating\, by captivating an inner sense of admiration of nature with her paintings.

DESCRIPTION:Holmes Art Studio \n806 Summit Ave\, Detroit Lakes\, MN 56501 \nMonday\, January 18th\, 2027 \n12:00 PM – 4:00 PM \n$40 per child \nAges 7-12 \nRegister Here \n  \nIn this art camp\, kids will explore emotions in a comfortable\, fun\, and creative way. We’ll watch Inside Out and talk about the different emotions we see throughout the movie. Kids will also create their own stress balls to use as fun fidgets while they watch.We’ll learn how artists use color\, lines\, shapes\, and other creative choices to express emotions. Then\, kids will use what they’ve learned to create original characters and develop their own stories. Each child will make a personalized book featuring their character and a story to go along with it.At the end of camp\, kids will take their books home\, along with plenty of inspiration and ideas to keep creating and filling the pages with new stories and artwork! \nPre Registration is required. All classes are final sale unless event is canceled. \nMeet your instructor: \nMaggie Peterson is an artist who graduated from MSU Moorhead with a degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in Printmaking. She enjoys creating a wide variety of artwork with people of all ages. Maggie has created art programming with the Detroit Lakes Community Center in the Holmes Theater and The Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes. She also works in the Art Department at Lakeshirts making artwork for Tshirts. She has participated in multiple art exhibitions including Hawley Art Shows\, Lakes Region Arts Council Art Shows\, New York Mills Cultural Center Shows\, and MacRostie Art Center Shows.
