About Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center

The Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center (DLCCC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that provides quality experiences to learn, grow and play to Detroit Lakes and the surrounding communities. Since opening, in 2001, it has become an important part of area life. The Center is equipped with a state of the art pool and fitness area that serves more than 3,000 members and the 837-seat Historic Holmes Theatre, which brings in acts from around the world and provides a stage for local entertainers. The DLCCC is also home to an learning center, senior center, childcare pods and more. The construction and renovation project that built the DLCCC exemplifies the importance the community places on enriching the lives for people of all ages and walks of life.

Sunfish Swim Team Helps Youth Make Healthy Choices

The Sunfish Swim team has been a Detroit Lakes tradition for three decades. At a time when many youth come home from school to a remote control and a bag of chips, the benefits the team provides are needed now more than ever before. Sunfish organizer and DLCCC program director Kim Bettcher says Sunfish numbers have increased from 18 participants last season to 38 this year.

“I attribute the growth to parents wanting their kids to make active choices, and something like swimming help them get physical activity 1-4 night each week,” she says.
