DLCCC Launches Corporate Wellness Program

The Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center is proud to announce the new “DLCCC Corporate Wellness Program.” The program is a unique partnership between the DLCCC and area businesses with the goal of promoting an active lifestyle among employees and the community.

Employees of participating businesses will receive a discount on their DLCCC membership if they check in at least eight times each month. All participants will receive a $5 credit each month they meet the minimum of eight check-ins. The DLCCC is also encouraging businesses to play an active role in the health of their employees by pitching in $5 per month, per employee as well. If businesses contribute, the DLCCC will kick in additional $5. This means that members could potentially save $15 per month, which is nearly 40 percent off the price of a premier single membership.

This program is similar to the insurance reimbursement programs offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica and other health insurance companies. The DLCCC is pleased to offer the program to those who do not currently receive this benefit through their health insurance provider. Companies who receive the reimbursement through their health insurance can receive a 10 or 15 percent discount through the DLCCC’s coprorate program.

The DLCCC hopes the “reward” strategy was implemented to encourage participants to commit to becoming physically active. “We really feel this will motivate people to make health and fitness a priority,” says DLCCC Chief Executive Officer Stu Omberg.

Research has shown that companies can benefit greatly from healthy employees. It’s been proven that corporate wellness programs are well worth the investment. The World Health Organzation has found that every $1 spent on company wellness programs saves the company $3 in future expenses. Benefits to the employers can include reduction of short-term sick leave (up to 32%), reduction of health care costs (up to 55%), increased productivity (up to 52%), improved staff morale, reduction of staff turnover, reduction of absenteeism and improved recruitment of new employees. Employees benefit from the programs as well including improved morale, reduction of stress, increased job satisfaction, improved health, improved sense of well being, and enhanced self-esteem.

Representatives from the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center will be visiting local businesses to inform them about the new Corporate Wellness Program. If you are interested in learning more, contact the DLCCC at 218-844-4221.
