Creole for Kidz
and the History of Zydeco
Grammy-award winning artist Terrance Simien uses Zydeco music- the indigenous music of the French-speaking Creoles of south Louisiana- to share his Creole culture and history. Simien’s music was featured on the silver screen in the Disney/Pixar film “The Princess and the Frog.”
A multicultural arts-in-education “informance” (informational performance) that has reached over 500,000 K-12 students, parents and educators at schools, art centers and festivals around the globe in places far away from Louisiana. This unique program has informed and engaged young and family audiences in Australia, Mali, Paraguay and all over Canada!
The Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco program is of course centered on the indigenous zydeco music of the French speaking Creoles of south Louisiana and is accompanied by a 6 page study guide used to help prepare the students in advance for the performance.

Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience
For more than 2 decades Grammy award winning artist Terrance Simien, 8th generation Louisiana Creole has been shattering the myths about what his indigenous Creole Zydeco music is and is not. Leading his Zydeco Experience Band, Simien has become one of the most respected and internationally recognized touring and recording artists in roots music today performing an incredible blend of Zydeco, Blues, Soul, Reggae and Rock. He has performed over 5000 concerts, toured millions of miles to over 40 countries and reached at least a million people during his eventful 25 year career.
His eclectic fusion of Zydeco takes you on a multicultural musical tour of the world. Incorporating diverse music styles, he creates a hypnotic blend of Zydeco-roots-New Orleans funk-reggae-flavored-Afro-Caribbean-world music that will force you out of your seat and onto the dance floor. His songs have appeared in Disney’s “Princess and the Frog,” and the newly release movie, “The Lucky One.”
This activity is made possible, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
