A Tribute to Woody Herman

Join us for a night of swinging hits as a 17-piece big band comprised of musicians from Fargo/Moorhead and the Lakes area re-create some of Woody Herman’s patented excitement (and maybe just a little nostalgia).
Woody Herman led one of the most influential big bands in the history of Jazz for over 50 years, from his start leading “The Band That Plays the Blues” in the mid-‘30s, through numerous editions of his “Swinging Herd,” until his death in 1987. Dozens of top jazz musicians got their start playing in Woody’s band, which was known for its hard-driving swing, its focus on outstanding soloists and its infectious sense of fun. During the band’s heyday from the late ‘30s through the early ‘50s, Woody had more Top 40 songs than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones or even the Beatles. Never one to rest on his laurels, Woody featured talented young musicians and fresh new arrangements throughout his lengthy career.

This show’s for you if…
• You enjoy jazz, blues and swing music
• You want to see some of the best regional musicians together on the Holmes stage
• You’d like to spend an evening reliving the “good old days”
