Hedda Gabler
Presented by Commonweal Theatre
A masterpiece of world drama, the gripping Norwegian classic, “Hedda Gabler,” has long been a favorite of theatre-goers. Seen by some as the tale of a reckless fiend, by others of a trapped and frustrated woman, powerless in her society, the story of the beautiful Hedda Gabler is not easily forgotten.
Written in 1890, “Hedda Gabler” is a remarkably modern play. It feels contemporary not only in theme (of a woman struggling with her choices) but in its form as well. Like the characters surrounding Hedda - we are soon caught up and seduced by this sexy, smart, dark and surprisingly funny play.
Commonweal Theatre Company, a professional theatre group from Lanesboro, Minn., is the only theatre company in North America with a commitment to annually producing the works of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. The Commonweal is thrilled to present this gripping drama as its 12th Ibsen production and its first visit to Detroit Lakes. Along with the evening performance, the actors will do outreach in the public schools.
Pre-Party starting at 6 p.m.
