“A Fine and Pleasant Misery” The Comedy of Patrick F. McManus

Featuring Tim Behrens

This laugh-packed one-man stage show features a bumper crop of tales harvested from one of America’s funniest humor writers. Patrick McManus is known for his books and columns in “Field and Stream” and “Outdoor Life” and has been called “a cross between Mark Twain and Bill Cosby.” Actor Tim Behrens weaves McManus’ tales of growing up in rural America into a truly hilarious evening of childhood memories.Tim Behrens wonderfully portrays more than 12 different McManus characters, each suggested by nothing more than a change of voice, posture or movement, ranging from the dirt-encrusted old woodsman, Rancid Crabtree, to the daft but well-meaning Mrs. Swisher. The two-act play begins as Pat rummages through an old trunk. Each discovery—a piece of tent, the slingshot “Whomper,” his collection of dried road kill, a cracked brace from his sled, “Rosebud”—is attached to a hilarious fish story, hunting escapade or youthful adventure!

Pre-Party at 5 pm!

“Behrens did a masterful job. He promised you’ll laugh until it hurts, and they (the audience) did.”
—The Detroit News, Detroit, MI

“Outstanding performance! I relished the joy of a performance that obviously knocked the audience out. People should see this show!”
—Jack Lemmon, Actor
