Slip on your running shoes and come into Detroit Lakes for the Dick Beardsley 1/2 Marathon, 2 person relay and 5K walk/run. The runs are scheduled for 8:30 am on Saturday, September 11.  Join the fun at the Friday evening Spaghetti Feed from 6-7:30 pm on September 10 at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center. Dick Beardsley & running legend Kathrine Switzer will speak at 7:30 pm.

Special Guest-Kathrine Switzer “The woman who broke the gender barrier”

Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to officially register for and run the Boston Marathon. She became a world-class runner and won the New York City Marathon in 1974. She has organized 400 women’s races in 27 countries and led the drive to get the women’s marathon into the Olympic games. She is an Emmy Award-winning TV commentator, founder of the Avon Running Global Women’s Circuit, and was part of the first class of inductees into the National Distance Running Hall of Fame.

2010 marks the 15th Anniversary for the Dick Beardsley Half Marathon. Look for plenty of extras such as chip timing, performance fabric garments, plenty of entertainment along the course as well as water stops.
